Eddie Teddie - Not just another small business but a dream of my entire Sisodia family. Let me narrate the story about how we kept this business alive all this years :) Follow along!!!

A mother of 3, my mother - Kiranbala's mind could not stop wondering about a job! Belonging to an orthodox Rajput family, having 3 school going toddlers, she could not go out and work. That's when she told my father about her idea of making soft toys at home and my father, very obviously, jumped in!
She was the 'First Woman' in our family to start a business. Studying the market dynamics, my passionate lady went beyond the boundaries of society to set up a manufacturing unit. Who knew little Mayuri (me) was also interested in distributing soft toys to the local retail shops in Udaipur with my father! As the business was at its peak, we even set up a shop for ourselves!!

Our entire mohalla was filled with women in ghunghat. The flourishing business helped my mom & dad employ those women. Breaking societal norms was an obstacle but once you step towards change, nothing can stop you. My mom started providing work from home facilities where women could take raw materials from us & make toys at their home. Meanwhile, my dad could see the essence of joy in my eyes as my questions about fabric, deliveries and costing never stopped!

10 years into the business were indeed historical for a middle class family like us! However, the dream crashed with the entry of Chinese products into Indian market. As Chinese stuffed toys were machine-made, Indian retailers made huge profits from them. The tough competition led to cost-cutting that made it challenging for the handmade industry. Surviving in such market conditions was nearly impossible hence the business shutdown in 2010.

Time went on, I went into hospitality industry & after working for 12 long years, I felt exhausted with the corporate life in Bangalore. As my father inspired me to restart the business, I quit my job & decided to take up the 24/7 job of building something of my own. I explored places to understand procurement of raw materials, manufacturing process, retail market, costing, and the art of strategizing.

With the help of my little sister, we started posting little clips on Instagram. We went absolutely viral!!! Completed 10k, then 20 and we also hit 100k soon ;) We made so many toys all these years with great quality and took all over social media. But my heart was somewhere else.

I just had a little idea of turning old baby clothes into memory quilts. I gathered some outfits from friends, cut them and made a quilt as a sample. Posted a random shot as a reel on my instagram page and boom! 3 million views on the first reel itself. Hundreds of orders poured in and we had to shut the soft toy business completely!

Till date, we have catered to more than 2000+ customers and created thousands of keepsakes. We also launched few more keepsake products and gained more than 250,000 followers on Instagram.
